Social Hackademy collaboration with Acceasy project https://socialhackademy.eu/2021/02/09/hackad-collaboration-with-acceasy/ Tue, 09 Feb 2021 12:35:32 +0000 https://socialhackademy.eu/?p=1016 EGInA is pleased to announce the collaboration between Social Hackademy and and another Erasmus+ project Acceasy with the aim of contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) included in the UN Agenda 2030.

Acceasy project’s goal is to raise awareness about the importance of opening European cultural heritage to everyone and using it as a tool to promote social inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.

@#hackAD project aims to empower young people with digital and transversal skills for the development of digital solutions to social challenges. In collaboration with local public and private entities from the social sector, #HackAD will organize in Italy @SHU (Social Hackathon Umbria) where teams of young people will compete in the co-creation of digital projects to contribute to sustainable social development.

What will be the collaboration between Social Hackademy and Acceasy project?

#hackAD will support Acceasy by including its objectives among the challenges that will be promoted in the Social Hackathon Umbria. Participating teams will be introduced to the easy to read language system which is designed for people with cognitive disabilities. With the support of experts from Acceasy project, they will be then challenged to develop creative digital solutions for its use and application in cultural heritage diffusion spaces.

Social Hackthon Umbria 2021 Calling! https://socialhackademy.eu/2020/11/27/social-hackthon-umbria-2021-calling/ https://socialhackademy.eu/2020/11/27/social-hackthon-umbria-2021-calling/#respond Fri, 27 Nov 2020 15:29:44 +0000 https://socialhackademy.eu/?p=912 The European Grants International Academy Srl has launched its scouting campaign for new partners willing to take part in the next edition of the Social Hackathon Umbria (SHU), next September 2021.

The first four SHU editions, organized from 2016 to 2019, had a big success with a positive and sustainable impact on all people involved in the process of co-creating digital solutions to societal challenges. SHU wants to celebrate this important anniversary with a big event supporting the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the Agenda UN 2030.

EGInA is looking forward to cooperating with Universities, High Schools, Digital Competence Development Centres, NGOs for the recruitment of Hackathon participants, as well as representatives from bodies active in one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals for the definition of the digital co-creation challenges to be proposed for SHU2021.

The main mission for the next edition is building a common and shared view of the most important challenges to be tackled at local level and promoting a wider exchange with experts and innovators from all over Europe to generate virtuous examples to be transferred to other places.

#hackAD aims, objectives and kick-off activities https://socialhackademy.eu/2020/02/11/hackad-project-kick-off-meeting/ Tue, 11 Feb 2020 09:00:27 +0000 http://socialhackademy.eu/wordpress/?p=194 Our aims and objectives

In many European countries, the educational system is still not fully adapted to the use of new technologies and very often youngsters passively use digital content and tools. Different reports (e.g. NESET Reports and PISA data) on disadvantaged youth mention that this is a digital gap of a second degree: youngsters from disadvantaged background are not using the computer or other mobile devices to learn but are often busy with games and internet.

To address the identified challenges, the #hackAD project wants to foster digital skills and competences of young people from disadvantaged background through the implementation of collaborative educational activities based on the Social Hackademy co-creation methodology (general objective of the project).

hackAD specific objectives are the following:
– Empowering young people (age 16-29) from disadvantaged background in the acquisition and development of digital skills for finding digital solutions to social challenges through the setting up of Social Hackademy Labs and the organisation of a Social Hackathon in 4 European countries.
– Improving trainers’ capacity to foster digital skills of youth at risk of social and digital exclusion.

How are we going to do it?

The #hackAD project will adapt and upscale the identified good practices, testing it directly in 4 European countries (Greece, Italy, Croatia and France) and disseminating and it also in Belgium and other EU countries. The upscaling strategy involves three main dimensions: a) widening the affected educational contexts through the creation of “Social Hackademy Labs” and multi-actor partnerships and teams (b) increasing the number of target groups directly involved in the project activities and (c) augmenting the participating countries and regions and adding a component of policy reach and influence activities from local to European level.

What’s next

After the kick-off meeting held in Brussels, the first stage of the project will adapt and improve the SHU methodology and develop content and tools to support its implementation.

The HackAD project has started! https://socialhackademy.eu/2020/01/15/the-hackad-project-has-started/ Wed, 15 Jan 2020 09:00:14 +0000 http://socialhackademy.eu/wordpress/?p=191 The Social Hackademy project wants to foster digital skills and competences of youth at risk of social and digital inclusion by developing and piloting an innovative methodology, which targets youth workers and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in digital skills, specifically modules on mobile app development, web design, and visual and graphic design. They will then apply what they learn by hacking solutions matched to sustainable development goals in a social hackathon. The project is supported by Erasmus+ programme.

Hackathons (a portmanteau of hacking and marathon) are sprint like events lasting a couple of days where at the end a functional solution is created. Typically, hackathons were confined to the field of software development, however the methodology of hackathons is increasingly applied to fields dedicated to a cause or a purpose to improve society and to find answers addressing questions of sustainable development and solutions.

The Social Hackademy aims to empower young people from disadvantaged backgrounds by helping them acquire and develop digital skills to find digital solutions to social challenges and also improve the capacity of trainers to foster the digital skills of youth at risk of social and digital exclusion. This is done through setting up of social hackademy labs and organising social hackathons.

The project builds on the good practice the Social Hackathon Umbria developed by project partner EGInA, which is based in Foligno, Italy. The use of social hackathons was used in the Generation 0101 project as a final event that was both used as a means of capacity building and co-creation, leading to sustainable innovation. The final event for Generation 0101 was so successful that it was decided that the social hackathons would be a regular event, which ended up taking place in Umbria for three editions prior to being developing into the Social Hackademy project.

Methodologies of hackathons, as mentioned, are increasingly used in other domains than just software development. While many organisations are using hackathons, it is important to stress the focus on social inclusion in both the best practice of social hackathons, like the best practice of SHU, and the Social Hackademy project. The hackathons in the project will be structured to find solutions addressing each of the 17 sustainable development goals, thus empowering young people by linking their solutions in a greater global context.

The partners of the Social Hackdemy project are:

Representatives of project partners at the kick-off meeting of Social Hackademy (#HackAD) project

The kick-off meeting on 10-11 February 2020 was the first occasion where partners managed to meet together. Unfortunately, bad weather meant that our partners from Croatia could not make it to Brussels for the kick-off meeting, fortunately they were able to join online. Partners had the chance to learn about the project history, timeline, share their background and experience and know the next stages for collaboration. A representative from EACEA that funds the KA3 social inclusion projects also attended the first part of the meeting to contextualise how the results of the project will be used, how policy recommendations will be used but also invited partners to be creative in how they approach the project – to escape from the confines of project management language and ensure the results and context of the project are approachable not only for the general public, but for the beneficiaries of young people at risk of exclusion.
